Issues

Mike's priorities come directly from conversations with Ward 5 residents.

These are the issues he'll fight for on the Eugene City Council.

Public Safety

We must prioritize public safety.  That is more than just having enough police and insisting on safe transportation corridors   We need to do the hard work of completing our consolidation of Eugene-Springfield Fire.  Mike has been an integral part of the work to complete the administrative consolidation that will save us money and plan for a safer community for all.

Housing & Affordability

We desperately need to build more housing.  And not just a little more.  A LOT more.  Housing of all types.  Our market is badly distorted and unusually expensive due to poor decisions made by prior council majorities.  We need to consider this a priority not just to create more affordability, but as a means of improving our local economy and tax base.

Local Economy

This is our most important priority.  We have made a lot of promises for service delivery that have spent our city into an unsustainable budget reality.  Economic growth can give us an opportunity to build a city with higher paying jobs and a tax base robust enough to keep our promises.  We must do a better job of supporting business creation and retention, especially as it relates to the new research work being done at the University of Oregon.  Our solutions lie in creating more tax payers, not increasing taxes on the people already here.
